Coaching
for Couples.
Insightful, practical support to help you understand each other better, improve communication, and shape your future together.
When Something in Your Relationship Needs to Shift.
Every relationship goes through periods of change.
Sometimes communication becomes strained, the same arguments repeat, or you may feel more distant from each other than you once did.
At other times, couples simply reach a point where they want to understand each other better, navigate an important transition, or think more intentionally about the future of their relationship.
This might be during major life changes — such as becoming parents, shifts in work or identity, retirement, or other moments when life asks a relationship to adapt.
Therapeutic Relationship Coaching creates space to step out of everyday pressures, explore what’s really happening between you, and begin shaping the relationship you both want moving forward.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting. Often the first step is simply recognising that your relationship would benefit from some time, space, and attention.
Where Insight Meets Practical Change
Therapy often focuses on understanding emotional patterns and past experiences. Coaching tends to focus on goals, communication strategies, and moving forward.
Therapeutic coaching brings these together.
It helps you understand the patterns shaping your relationship while also developing practical tools and approaches that help you communicate more clearly, navigate disagreements more constructively, and make decisions together.
Alongside this, couples often use coaching to explore deeper questions such as:
What values matter most to us as a couple?
What kind of relationship do we want to build?
How do we make decisions about our future together?
What does a fulfilling shared life look like?
This combination of insight and forward momentum helps couples move beyond simply discussing problems and begin actively shaping the relationship they want.
Perhaps Some of This Feels Familiar
Many couples I work with recognise themselves in experiences such as:
Communication feels difficult or tense
Conversations often lead to misunderstandings, arguments, or avoidance.
The same conflicts keep repeating
You find yourselves having the same disagreements without resolution.
Life pressures are affecting the relationship
Work stress, parenting, or major life transitions are creating tension.
You feel more distant than you used to
Connection, closeness, or shared purpose may feel harder to access.
You want to strengthen the relationship before problems grow larger
Some couples come to coaching proactively to improve communication and connection.
You’re struggling to make important decisions together
Differences in priorities or expectations may feel difficult to navigate.
You want to think more intentionally about your future together
You may want space to explore shared values, priorities, and goals as a couple.
What Starts to Shift
As the work unfolds, many couples begin to notice meaningful changes in how they relate to each other.
Couples often describe:
clearer and calmer conversations
practical ways to navigate disagreements
greater understanding of each other’s perspectives
improved communication in everyday situations
renewed connection and shared direction
more confidence in facing challenges together
Rather than feeling stuck in the same patterns, couples often find themselves responding differently — with more awareness, clarity, and cooperation.
What Sessions Are Like
Therapeutic Couples coaching sessions are structured conversations designed to help you both step back from familiar patterns and see the relationship more clearly.
Each partner has the opportunity to share their perspective, while we also focus on practical ways to improve communication and problem-solving.
Sessions may include:
• exploring the patterns that shape your relationship
• exercises that help you communicate more clearly
• insights about how relationship dynamics work
• conversations about shared priorities and future direction
• practical tools you can use in everyday conversations
• strategies to help you navigate conflict more constructively
The aim is to create both understanding and progress - so the relationship begins to feel different not just in the session, but in everyday life.
What Clients Say
About Vivien
Hello, I’m Vivien Moriarty.
I’m a Therapeutic Coach based in Bristol, working with individuals and couples across the UK both online and in person.
One of the most common things I hear from clients is:
"I know something needs to change - I just don’t know how."
For over 10 years I’ve supported people through periods of change, uncertainty, and personal growth, and I’ve worked with hundreds of clients navigating challenges in their relationships, careers, and personal lives.
My background combines coaching, therapeutic approaches, and meditation teaching. What I’ve seen time and again is that relationships improve when couples are given both the space to understand what’s really happening between them and practical tools to approach situations differently.
The Practical Details
Sessions last 50 minutes and take place:
In person at my practice in Bristol
Or online via Google Meet
Sessions cost £85.
(I reserve a small number of sessions each month at a reduced rate for those who might not otherwise be able to access this work - please get in touch)
Most couples begin with weekly or fortnightly sessions.
Each session combines exploration, insight, and practical tools that support meaningful change in the relationship.
Between sessions you’ll have tailored tools, reflections, gentle accountability, and light check-ins where helpful.
The First Step.
If you’re curious about whether couples coaching could help, the best place to begin is a short consultation.
Either one of you or both of you are welcome to attend. Many couples start with one partner reaching out initially.
The consultation is simply a conversation where we explore what’s been happening in your relationship and whether this approach feels like the right next step.
